Oral health contributes to your pet’s overall health

Just like how humans should be getting their regular dental care, our pets need it as well. Oral health contributes to your pet’s overall health in a number of ways. Animals suffering from tooth decay, gum disease or abscesses will need prompt medical intervention to prevent pain and suffering as well as debilitating mouth and jaw conditions in the long run. In addition to that, bacteria found in the mouth of pets with poor dental hygiene can travel to and affect the heart, kidneys and liver.

Annual Dental Cleanings

We recommend that your pet receive annual dental cleanings, especially after the age of 3, to prevent or manage periodontal disease. Professional cleanings are the only way to safely and effectively remove tartar from the surface of the teeth and under the tissue of the gums. This, in conjunction with regular maintenance at home, will help ensure good oral health for your pet.

Signs that you may need to get your pet’s teeth and mouth checked sooner may include, but are not limited to, bad breath, visibly discolored or loose teeth, refusal to eat or swelling and bleeding around the mouth. If your pet is exhibiting any of these symptoms, please contact us immediately. And remember, when your pet is in physical distress, they may be especially sensitive to people poking around in areas that hurt and could bite even if they’re not generally prone to it.

As far as the procedure goes, routine dental care does require anesthesia, and we often suggest taking x-rays to assess the bones of the jaw and teeth. Home care post-procedure is simple and just requires monitoring for after-effects of the sedative.

Our goal is to work with you to find the best solutions for you and your animal.

We strive to work with you and your pet
